Here’s today’s NY Times story on gay-bashing in schools throughout Georgia. Sounds like a broad plan to me, with government and church cooperating. Roger Williams is rolling in his grave. Who will stop Pope Price and Bishop Dowless?

Just fact checking–there was never an annual Christmas bonus given. We’ve only had one in the 10 years I have worked at Shorter and that came the first year Dr. Dowless was President. That was a gift with no guarantee that it would continue each year.

It seems as though the people in charge of Shorter enjoy games as a means to an end. Lets see if they can stand on their own as they get the school how they want it. They can’t rest on the laurels of the past for long.

As a Berry alum, I worry about our football program that will kickoff next season. While I’m a huge sports fan and bleed red and black, I’m not so sure football is a boon for a small school that prides itself on academic excellence. Most small football programs cost more money than they bring it. It remains to be seen how it will play out for both Berry and Shorter, but the personality and focus of the two schools will certainly never be the same.

And a +1 to the author for having the audacity to write “a holiday on the hardwood!”

More numbers

3702 enrolled fall 2011
978 graduated
possible returning students=2724

2932 fall enrollment 2012
525 graduates this fall
2407 students possible returning for spring
3329 enrolled Spring of 2012
2407 is 72.3% of spring 2012 enrollment

New enrollment for fall 2012 was at least 208 new students.

And enrollment is only down a little bit.

Thank you, SOS, for another enlightening article. I would like to take this opportunity to let those who read the articles, responses and replies on SOS, know that the employees in the athletic department at Shorter University consist of many fine people who are just trying to do the job they were hired to do. They are good, good people and they are doing the best that they can in a difficult situation. Many, if not most of these employees, do not necessarily agree with those now controlling Shorter University. Furthermore, they have absolutely no control over the powers-that-be. Frankly, the employees in the athletic department are in this mess just as deep as many other employees at Shorter University, and like others, they too have to navigate the muddy waters very carefully.

Dowless and GBC making sure that
Shorter serves as a Sunday school-missionary-fundamental whirligig of academia is a great line. Maybe one of these days Dowless, Price and their selected trustees will be gone and we will give thanks.
