BOARD OF TRUSTEES PACKET
COMMITTEE FOR INTEGRITY DOCUMENTS
The Rome News Tribune published an article in the Sunday, April 1 edition entitled Survey results show some Shorter faculty unhappy: Shorter administrators say results are not an accurate reflection of entire school. The following are the documents to which the article is referring:
- Introduction to the Documents
- Copy of the original faculty survey form
- Letter from Read, Martin & Slickman detailing survey results
- Letter from The Committee for Integrity addressed to Shorter administration
GEORGIA SUPREME COURT DECISION
SHORTER POLICY STATEMENTS AND PUBLIC COMPLAINT FORM
- Personal Lifestyle Statement
- Statement of Faith
- Biblical Principles on the Integration of Faith and Learning
- Public Complaint Form
- Complaint Policy
The above complaint forms are provided as a public service. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requires their member institutions to provide the above to the public. Shorter has removed these forms from their website.
From the SACS Commission on Colleges:
“COMPLAINT PROCEDURES AGAINST THE COMMISSION OR ITS ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS
– Policy –
“Responsibilities of Institutions
The Principles of Accreditation states:
The institution has adequate procedures for addressing written student complaints and is responsible for demonstrating that it follows those procedures when resolving student complaints. (Comprehensive Standard 4.5)
In addition, each institution is required to have in place student grievance and public complaint policies and procedures that are reasonable, fairly administered, and well-publicized. The Commission also requires, in accord with federal regulations, that each institution maintains a record of complaints received by the institution. This record is made available to the Commission upon request. This record will be reviewed and evaluated by the Commission as part of the institution’s decennial evaluation.”

This is so beyond excellent Betty Zane and committee.
Betty Zane Morris and everyone who worked on this so diligently are my heroes. Bravo to TRUTH and LIGHT.
Wonderful letter!
This is genius! They could pretend everything is just as they’d planned before, but Price and Dowless can’t manipulate people out of reading the numbers. I hope so much that this makes an impact on those who see it so that Shorter may be saved, but if nothing else, one thing is certain–if all the resigning faculty are serious about their statements, Shorter will be an entirely different place next year, and let’s just say that after seeing that survey, I’m not sure I’d want to ever come back…
I am apalled at the current developments at Shorter. I have been a proud supporter of a fabulous school and sent many students to enjoy the wonderful faculty there. NO MORE!!!! This is an outrage to our intelligence. How can we call ourselves Christians and FORCE- such antiquated and ridiculous standards on what should be an educated group. The Fundamentalists can have it and continue to promote hatred, sexism, homophobia, and plain old ignorance on the community and the world. No wonder our society is going back in time instead of progessing toward enlightenment!!!
Dear Shorter- It’s clear , again, that Fundamentalist Christians are bigots :persecuting a loyal faculty member and having bedroom bylaws for adults. It’s no wonder that fundamentalist ministers and conservative politicians are often the ones caught participating in secret gay sex : all that fear and repression being pushed onto an open, honest librarian. For shame.
